About Ms. Thomas
Hi, I'm Ms. Colleen Thomas! This is my sixth year teaching and fourth year at North Mecklenburg High School, and I'm excited to be teaching AP United States History and IB History of the Americas II. I'm originally from the Midwest and graduated from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in history before spending four years in the world of sports journalism.
I started out my career by covering a mid-major university in my home state of Indiana before moving to Charlotte in 2014 to work at Sporting News as the college sports editor and internship coordinator. I'm a huge college football and basketball fan, so tracking the major games and big programs was a blast, but I didn't feel like I was making a difference with my career choice.
So in 2016, I enrolled in UNCC's graduate certificate program in secondary education and completed the program of study in December 2018. I am also fortunate to be at NMHS to help educate students on the events of the past to help inform their decisions as engaged citizens of the future! I look forward to an amazing school year with my students!
